Why is This Role Critical to Us?
We are looking for an experienced Database Expert to be responsible end-to-end managing Database structures and work with our engineering team to optimize, implement customer and internal organizations’ database systems. A Database Engineer’s responsibilities include deploying and debugging systems, as well as executing new database initiatives.
How will you spend your time at Vodafone?
Management and operation of design, installation, upgrade and patching, migration, backup&restore and consolidation processes in MSSQL, PostgSQL, MySQL, NoSQL and Oracle database structures- Design and Management of DR structures of DB systems
- Tunning, Hardening in both the DB and System layers and also environment components, as well as troubleshoot and fix performance issues in those layers
- Troubleshooting and reporting mysterious and critical issues
- Resolve problems in database bottleneck areas with tuning
- Controlling access permissions and privileges
- Ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
- Periodic health checks in mission critical DB structures,
- To comply with RPO and RTO targets,
- Planning and implementation of database backup and restore strategies,
- To prepare high availability and disaster recovery plans and applications and to follow the process
- Monitor and tune database performance, participate in capacity planning, including processing, storage, and back-up/recovery capacity
- Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
- Evolve the database environment within the organization, including better information delivery mechanisms, methodologies, and architecture
- Proactive monitoring of deployed systems and HW/SW components
- Management of cloud project steps related to DB structures such as migration , consolidation , precheck, etc.
- Responsible for ensuring database backups and restores to include scheduled testing and validation
- Ensure that work associated risks are assessed and reduced so far as is reasonably practicable
- Comply with VFTR’s information security policy, standards and procedures, available under Intranet / Corporate Security Library,
- Report all suspected security and/or policy breaches, potential security risks to VF TR Corporate Security,
- Protect VF TR’s information assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference,
- Protect user accounts and associated passwords , and accept accountability for any actions performed via usage of those accounts.
- Ensure that BCM risks are assessed and mitigated so far as is reasonably practicable in VFTR Business Continuity Management System (BCMS)
- Ensure VTR BCMS by planning, establishing, embedding, implementing, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving within VFTR
You are just the person we’ve been looking for, if you have:
Degree qualified in Engineering discipline preferably Telecommunication, Electronics, Electricity or Computer Science- Minimum 3 years of people management experience
- At least 10 years hands on experience on Database Operations on multi-vendor environment
- At least 5 years customer management experience
- Significant experience of planning, designing and operation activities
- Significant Experience of Database monitoring technologies
- Deep understanding of the transmission technologies
- Good understanding of Cloud , Database and Operationg system Technologies
- Significant Experience of ITIL processes design and implementation
- Good knowledge of Database, Operating system concepts and Cloud services
- Extensive problem solving skills and innovation
- Good written and verbal English
